Madison -- William T. "Bill" Furnari passed away Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at home under Hospice care. Bill was born 25 June, 1936 in Lawrence, MA.
Bill enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1953, serving four years, most of his service in Occupation Germany. Assigned to the 86th Material Squadron, Landstul AFB, Bill was part of material and supply, warehouse; and was also on the golf team. After being discharged at Elgin AFB, Florida, he became an assistant golf professional.
Recruited by George Vitense to come to Madison, WI, Bill continued his teaching career and began his association with now Madison icon, George Vitense Golfland. From Madison, Bill became assistant golf professional at Blue Mound Country Club in Milwaukee, then Head Professional at Oneida Country Club in Greenbay, WI. In 1970 Bill took a position at Vitense Golfland in which he would be apart of for more than 40 years.
Bill Furnari is survived by his Sons Jeffrey T. Furnari and Joel Sebastian Furnari; his sisters Dolores Furnari and Helen Saladi; his brother Ed Furnari, many nieces and nephews, close friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Adrienne and Sam Furnari.
A reception will be held from 4:00PM to 7:00PM at Vitense Golfland on Thursday, 26 June, 2014.
