Madison/Plain - Viola E. Wohlferd, age 96, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2018. She was born Oct 4,1921 to Frank and Molly Meise in Plain WI. Throughout her life she spoke fondly of growing up in the beautiful rural hills of Plain, particularly spending the summers at the farm of her Aunt Annie. Viola graduated from St Luke's Catholic School and traveled to Washington DC to work for the War Production Board during WWII. Returning to Madison, she attended St Mary's School of Nursing. Viola then went to work for the State Office of Vocational Rehabilitation. She married Frank Wohlferd. Together they raised two daughters. Viola enjoyed the simple things in life, gardening, reading and remaining close to her daughters throughout the years. Her quick wit, extraordinary sense of humor and acceptance of all people were some of her greatest attributes. She is survived by her daughters Linn (Jim) Grohs and Jill (Tad) Zimdars, four grandchildren Tyler (Nikki) Zimdars, Laraine (Eric) Zimdars, Alysa (Bryan) Franklin and Hunter Grohs. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank of 53 years, infant son, her parents and 4 siblings. Heartfelt thanks go to the excellent staff of Sienna Crest Assisted Living and Agrace Hospice Care.
