Shirley Diane Dokken, of Waunakee, passed away peacefully at the Kindred Hearts Assisted Living/Memory Care facility in Cottage Grove on February 25, 2022. She was born on September 3, 1935 in Ironwood, Michigan; graduated from Adams-Friendship High School in 1953, and attended the University of Wisconsin for one year, after which she transferred to, and graduated from the Madison General (Meriter) Hospital School of Nursing in 1957.The majority of Shirley's nursing career (35 years) was spent as a postpartum RN in the birthing center at Meriter Hospital.
Shirley and her husband Dennis were joined in marriage on August 24th 1957 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Adams Wisconsin. They were always proud parents of two sons; David, in 1964 and Scott in 1972.
In addition to her work as an RN, Shirley always found time for, and enjoyed being a wife to Dennis, a mother to David and Scott, and enjoyed, as well, her many friends from her church circle, and several bridge groups.
Shirley is survived by Dennis, her husband of 64 years; a son David (Linda) of Franklin, Wis; grand daughters, Arin and Emily Dokken of Franklin, Wis; Caroline Dokken of White Bear Lake, MN; Camille Dokken of St. Paul, MN; and great granddaughter, Vaeda Peralta of White Bear Lake, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eino and Diana Waarala; an infant sister Sandra; her Aunt Ellen Thorson, and son Scott Andrew in 2014.
A memorial service will take place at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, March 10, 2022 at the Bethel Lutheran Church, 312 Wisconsin Ave. Visitation from 9:00 A.M. until the time of the service and lunch following at noon.
