DEERFIELD - Rolland J. Eide, age 90, passed away Sunday, November 6, 2016 at Wm. S. Middleton VA Memorial Hospital in Madison, WI. He was born January 27, 1926 in the Town of Christiania, the son of Julian and Gladys (Algrim) Eide. His education and employment were contained in the Stoughton, Rockdale and Deerfield areas. Rollie was united in marriage to Lila Christianson at St. Paul's Lutheran Church on March 27, 1954. They resided in Deerfield until his death. He retired from Stay-Rite in 1984.
Rollie is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lila; two sons, Thomas (Nancy) and Terry (Stacy) Eide; three grandchildren, Ana Eide, Amy Eide and Aaron Eide; two step grandchildren, Jessi and Natasha Bassett; several great-grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews; and his sister-in-law Winifred Eide and brother-in-law Roger Lehman. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Shirley Lehman, and his brother, Leroy.
Rollie was a Purple Heart Veteran of the Korean War, and was proud of his service. He was an active member of the Deerfield American Legion Post 260 for over 60 years, and a life member of Deerfield-Cambridge VFW 9424. He was also a member of the DAV and Military Order of the Purple Heart Organization, a Charter Member of the Deerfield Rod and Gun Club, and a member of the Volunteer Fire Dept. He marched in many parades in his earlier years in his Legion and/or VFW uniform, whether it be festivals, holidays, or any celebration. He BBQ'd chicken for the Fireman-Legion Festival and the VFW celebrations for many years. He was jokingly referred to as "Colonel Rollie". He would often complain about all the work involved, but he "loved" every minute of it. He was also a member of St. Paul's Liberty Lutheran Church.
A Memorial Service celebrating Rollie's life will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at St. Paul's Liberty Lutheran Church, 3493 Oak Park Rd., Deerfield, with Pastor Holly presiding. Friends and Family may call from 1 pm until time of service. Military Rites to be accorded. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Paul's Liberty Lutheran Church, Deerfield or Alzheimer's & Dementia Alliance, 501 Segoe Rd., Madison, would be greatly appreciated.
