Richard J Holmes

McFarland - Richard Joseph Holmes, age 63, passed away at his home on Tuesday, October 13, 2015.

Richard (Dick) was born on August 23, 1952 to Austin and Rose Holmes (Tordeur) in Green Bay, WI.

Dick graduated from Premontre High School in Green Bay, WI and enjoyed playing football and attending the high school dances. He attended St. Norbert's College in DePere, WI and the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

He had many fond memories of his annual hunting trip with relatives on land near his Aunt and Uncle, Henry and Mary Ness, in Babcock, WI. He enjoyed football, photography, working with computers, and billiards.

Dick was employed by JL Richards Catering in Oregon, WI for over 25 years as a meat cutter. He also assisted in the design and maintenance of their website.

Dick is survived by his son, Joseph Edward Holmes of St. Louis Park, MN, two brothers, Donald Holmes of Waupaca, WI, and Robert Holmes of DePere, WI, one sister, Diane Jen of Green Bay, WI, former wife Mary Lynn Des Chane-Holmes of Madison, WI, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Austin Holmes, Rose Holmes-Peer (Tordeur), step-father Joseph Peer, sister Edna Hansen, and nephews, David and James Hansen.

A special thank you to the clinical staff from the University of Wisconsin Madison Carbone Cancer Center and Hospital for the loving care provided to Dick during his battle with cancer as well as the support provided his family. Also thanks to housemates William (Billy) Knipfer and Melissa Schultz, and his boss, Rich Wisden who assisted in providing for Dick's needs.

Service will be held at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, 401 S. Owen Drive, Madison, WI 53711 on Friday, October 23, 2015. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM until the funeral mass at 11:00 AM.
