Richard LeRoy Benson

Richard LeRoy Benson, age 77, of Madison, WI passed away peacefully on January 4, 2025. Richard was born to Maurice and Margaret Benson on July 20, 1947, and grew up in the Fayette and Darlington area.

Richard enlisted in the United States Army and served during the Vietnam War. However, his belief is that war is senseless. After retiring from the United States Postal Service, he enjoyed reading, gardening, good music and woodworking. He would also drop whatever he was doing to help family and friends.

Richard is survived his daughters Melissa (Erik) Loiselle and Katie Benson; sister Sally Grossen, brother in-law Greg (Kathy) McKillip; sister in-law Pam Crapp; grandchildren Sophie, Shane, John, Cassidy and Griffin; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and cherished friends.

Richard was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 51 years, Rhonda; his parents and his in-laws; and siblings Maurice, Gerald, Irvin, Robert, Lawrence and Lillian.

No services will be held at this time.
