Paul Donald Jelle

November 1, 1952 — September 24, 2016

Paul Donald Jelle of Oregon, WI died Saturday, September 24, 2016 at Agrace Hospice of cancer as a result of complications due to hemochromatosis.
Paul was born at St. Clare Hospital, Monroe, WI, on November 1, 1952, the son of Donald and Dorothy (Paulson) Jelle. He married Faye Friske on July 1, 1993.
Paul grew up on the family farm in Montrose Township, WI and attended a one room school house for his first four grades. He then attended Belleville Public Schools and graduated from Belleville High School in 1970. Upon graduation Paul attended the UW-Platteville and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree with a double major in Accounting and Business Administration and a minor in Economics in 1974. While at UW-Platteville Paul was a member of the wrestling team and Letterman's Club. Paul then went on to earn a Master's of Business Administration from Cardinal Stritch in 1993.
Paul began and ended his working career of 38 years with the UW-Madison. Most of those years were spent as the Assistant Dean in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences. Paul was held in high regard not only with his colleagues but the entire University community. In 2007 Paul received the Academics Staff Award for Excellence in Service. When Paul retired in June of 2013 he was honored with Emeritus Status and Babcock Hall named an ice cream for him, "Paul Jelly".
Paul was very proud to be a member of the rock band, The Revolutionary. The band was very successful. Paul loved his time in the band because he was playing with his friends, Dale, Ken, and Randy. Paul also enjoyed reading, golf, and fishing.
Paul will be remembered as a loving husband, proud and loving father, and doting grandfather. He was a man of integrity, honesty, kindness, compassion, was the most selfless man you would ever have met, and his sense of humor was priceless. Paul will be greatly missed by family, friends, and colleagues. To know him was to respect and admire him. Paul met death with courage, grace, and dignity that was truly a testament to the kind of man he was.
Paul is survived by his loving wife Faye, son Mitchell, daughter Elizabeth (Andy) Kraus, granddaughters Kellen and Cora Kraus, mother Dorothy, sister JoAnn (Paul) Wittwer, brother David (Laura), brother-in-law Fredric Friske. He was preceded in death by his father Donald and mother-in-law Marguerite Friske.
The family would like to thank Dr. Sam Lubner, Dr. Jason Pinchot, Dr. Michael Bassetti, and Dr. Toby Campbell at UW Hospital and the Carbone Cancer Center for their excellent care, the professionals at UW Digestive Health Care who cared for Paul, the staff of Agrace Hospice who attended to Paul, and the many neighbors, friends, and family for their many kindnesses; cards, gifts of food, prayers, visits, phone calls and emails, and moral support. They were greatly appreciated and will never be forgotten.
