Patricia A Smith

Patricia (Pat) Ann Smith, of Stoughton, WI, passed away on Sunday, June 11, 2023 at University Hospital in Madison, WI following a courageous six-year battle with cancer.

Pat was born in Madison on January 24, 1953 to William and Shirley Meixner.  She attended Madison schools and loved to tell stories about her mischievous childhood adventures.  She credited her time at Edgewood High School as an especially impactful experience as she transitioned into adulthood.  Early in her high school years, she began her career as a legal secretary and stayed true to that field throughout her working years.

In her twenties, Pat moved to northern California.  While there, she developed a deep appreciation for German Shepherds and became a well-regarded breeder in that region.  She and her dogs actively competed in dog shows and were often among the top performers.

After 20 years on the West Coast, she returned home to Madison and met the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Smith.  Bob and Pat were united in marriage on February 14, 2001.  They enjoyed many adventures together and spoke of their deep contentment in their marriage to each other.

Upon returning to Madison, Pat continued to pursue her passion for dogs.  For much of the 2000’s, she played an active role in German Shepherd rescue organizations.  In 2010, Pat joined Badger Kennel Club, Inc. where she took on many leadership roles, most of the time serving as Board Secretary.  Pat also was very involved with the Dog Fair and FastCat events, which she led with grace and a sense of humor.  Her hundreds of hours of volunteer service left a positive impact on the BKC community.

Pat is survived by her husband, Bob; stepdaughter Tonya (Scott) Wienkes; two grandsons, Gabe and Aidan; as well as many extended family and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Pat at a later date.
