Mrs. Nicki S. Schultz, age 67, of Chetek, passed away September 28, 2015 at Agrace Hospice Center in Fitchburg, WI. Nicki was born March 13, 1948 in Portage, WI to Virginia and Leigh D Weider, Jr.
Nicki graduated from Portage Senior High in 1966, and met regularly with other members of her class. She raised two children, Maya and Gary, in an old farmhouse on Lake Wisconsin. She helped manage the family business, Weider's Tavern in Portage, until after her father's death, and worked for many years at Lenscrafters in Madison.
In October 2007, she married her best friend, LeRoy Schultz, with whom she shared a love of drives in the country, flea markets, model railroads, their two cats, Slick and Mazie, and their children and grandchildren.
Nicki loved reading, especially mysteries. She collected Depression glass, vases and unique brooches. She enjoyed bird watching, her feeders attracting many different birds, including her favorite hummingbirds, as well as squirrels and raccoons! She made friends wherever she went, whether at work, bowling, model train shows, or at parties. Her loving and accepting nature turned strangers into friends, and friends into chosen family.
Nicki is survived by her husband, LeRoy "Lee" Schultz; children Maya (Brent, Richard Fox) Bender, Gary (Valerie) Gust, Kim Heller, Carmen Horacek, Sue (Dan) Fladhammer, Stuart (Trisha) Schultz; sisters Sally (John) Green, and Mary Fischer; grandchildren Steven Waite, Taylor Waite, Duncan Waite, Melissa (Luke) Nolte, Alexandria "Lexi" Fladhammer, Eric Fladhammer, Megan Schultz, Jenna Schultz, and Natalie Fox; nephew Brandon (Lisa) Fischer; niece Tricia Fischer; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Nicki was preceded in death by parents Virginia and Leigh D Weider, Jr.; mother-in-law Lorna R. Gust; brothers David Weider and Jeffrey Weider; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
A memorial open house will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2015 from noon to 3 PM at Agrace Hospice Center, 5395 E. Cheryl Parkway, Madison, WI 53711.
The family requests, in respect for Nicki's great love of animals, donations be made to no-kill animal shelters rather than sending flowers.
