Nancy A. Freeman, age 84, died January 12, 2024 at BeeHive Homes in Oregon, Wisconsin. She was
born April 3, 1939, the daughter of Dorothy Johnson, in Savanna, IL. Nancy graduated from Mt.Carroll
High School in 1957. She was united in marriage to Lloyd L. Freeman on March 13, 1960 in Bloomington,
MN and was married to him until his death in 2015.
Nancy worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a rural mail carrier for 27 years in Mt. Carroll and Savanna,
delivering mail through rain, sleet and snow. She also worked at Interstate Power Company, where she
met Lloyd, and at Gambles Hardware Store. Nancy also worked on the farm that she and Lloyd farmed
together in the Preston Prairie area from 1960 to 1982.
Nancy was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church, past secretary and treasurer of the church board, a member of the women’s church circle, Past Matron of the OLA Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, past member of the Wa-Tan-Ye Club, the Preston Prairie Club, and 4 C’s Club. In addition, Nancy served on the school board for the Mt.Carroll District #304 for several years, as well as holding a position of an officer. Nancy grew up as a Girl Scout, and then served as a leader for many different levels of scouting for her daughters’ troops, and then went on to serve as the president of the Green Hills Council Board of Directors. Nancy was also a longtime member of the Rural Letter Carriers Association and the Republican Women of Carroll County.
Nancy enjoyed growing flowers, feeding and watching birds, playing games with family and friends, the
companionship of her cats, traveling to Alaska, and attending her daughters’ and grandaughter’s many
music and theater performances over the years.
She is survived by her daughter, Vicki (Samuel) Huntington of Belleville, WI; granddaughter, Madison
Stauffer of Eau Claire, WI; and a sister-in-law Wilma (Ken, deceased 2013) Freeman of Mt. Carroll. She is preceded in death by her husband, a daughter and parents.
A family memorial graveside service will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery in Mt. Carroll at a future date.
