Joyce Betsy Myra Schugart, age 76, of Madison Wisconsin passed away on January 6th 2013 at The Agrace hospice in Fitchburg Wisconsin. She was born on March 12, 1936 in LaCrosse Wisconsin, the daughter of Harlan Myra and Dorothy Alton. She married Gene Schugart on June 28, 1956 in Chicago Illinois.
Joyce was an avid, selective reader. Her formal literature studies began in Chicago, at DePaul University and continued at Marymount College in Palos Verdes Estates, California. She was a loyal wife and a devoted mother to her three children and a loving grandmother to her five grandchildren.
Her survivors include: Husband, Gene Schugart of Madison Wisconsin; daughter, Kimberly Schugart-Remelmeyer of Altadena California; sons, Perry (Kathleen) Schugart of Zürich Switzerland and Hugh (Hiromi) Schugart of Piedmont California; twin grand sons, Charles Yu Schugart and Max Koji Schugart of Piedmont California; twin grand daughters, Erica Jane Schugart and Kristen Laura Schugart of Milwaukee Wisconsin; and grand daughter Jenna Paige Schugart of Zürich Switzerland.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, John Myra.
Joyce treasured her close friends in the Midwest, on both the East and the West coasts, and overseas. She delighted in sharing her very personal thoughts and ambience with them in visits, exchanges of letters and in long telephone chats.
For Joyce, being with groups of people for periods of time was quite stressful. While she always enjoyed meeting new people, she preferred by far, the exchanging of intimate ideas with just a few close friends. Motivated by her very private sensibilities, she requested that her body be simply cremated and that there be no public services, flowers or memorials.
This spring, her ashes will be spread in the flower garden of Cress Funeral Services In Madison Wisconsin.
Our family thanks the Agrace hospice for making her last month as perfect as possible, and suggest any donations be directed to Agrace Hospice Care, 5395 E. Cheryl Parkway, Madison, WI 53711.
