A spirited soul who filled every room with laughter and light, passed away peacefully on February 7, 2025 under the wonderful care of Brookdale Memory Care in Sun Prairie, WI, and with the support of hospice.
Born on May 6, 1940, in Wellingborough, England, to Frank and Doris Chappell. Jackie was raised with a proper British cup of tea in one hand and a mischievous twinkle in her eye. Jackie and her older sister Faith had a balanced sibling dynamic-Faith brought the poise, while Jackie brought the playfulness. Jackie enjoyed sharing stories of growing up in England.
Jackie's adventurous spirit led her to Walter Cottington, an American serviceman stationed in England during the Korean War Conflict. The two married in 1957, lived in Germany for a year and eventually settled in Wisconsin-where Jackie bravely embraced a new home, away from her family she loved and missed. Jackie and Walter later divorced.
Jackie built a vibrant life in Madison, WI, where she poured her heart into everything she did. She dedicated 30+ years with Wisconsin Community Action Program, rising to Executive Director and advocating for those who are underserved. Jackie was generous, determined and hardworking. As Jackie worked hard, she had joy in cooking, traveling, gardening, losing herself in a good book and spending time with her family and friends. Her charming British accent and her beautiful blue eyes made her appear prim and proper, until she surprised you with her bawdy humor. Jackie lived a long and filled life that was blessed with a loving family and loyal friendships.
Though memory loss may have taken pieces of her story, it could never erase the love she had for her family or the joy she inspired. Jackie will be deeply missed but fondly remembered through countless stories, laughter and the love she created.
Jackie is survived by those lucky enough to call her mom, Faith (Mark) Kelley, Hope Cottington (Ron Gifford) and Merrill (Linda) Cottington. Her grandchildren who deeply love her, Joshua (Katie) Kelley, Brian Kelley, Jason (Beth Battista) Kripps, Heather (Ian) Oakes, Aaron (Essa) Cole and Mick Cottington. And her great grandkids that were fortunate enough to have Gigi that loved them so, Madilyn Kripps, Keaton Kripps, Sutton Kelley, Jackson Kelley, Jordan Cole and Charlie Cole.
Jackie is also survived by her family in England and her many friends here. Jackie is preceded in death by her parents, Doris and Frank, her sister Faith, and her precious and beloved grandson C.J. Davis.
As per Jackie's wishes, no formal services will be held. Those who wish to honor her memory may consider a donation to Angel's Wish Cat Rescue in Verona WI, or Agrace Hospice in Fitchburg, WI.
Jackie's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Agrace Hospice and Brookdale for their compassionate care.
In her spirit, let's share a laugh, embrace a little mischief and live life with the same joy and generosity she did. We thank God for her beautiful legacy. Until we meet again- ta ta, pip pip, cheerio!
