Madison - Herbert Joseph Hovey, age 82, died on Friday, July 11, 2014 at St. Mary's Care Center in Fitchburg. He was born in Madison on February 16, 1932, the son of Joseph and Janet (Derrickson) Hovey. Herb graduated from St. Joseph Catholic School and Edgewood High School. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 20 years of service. Herb and his brother, Norm, enjoyed many trips to Moose Lake for muskie fishing. His other passions were gardening, coin collecting, and football. Herb resided at the Quaker House Apartments for the last five years and made many new friends and a very special friend, Joanne.
Herb is survived by his sisters, Christina Hovey, Margie (John) Schwantes, Rosalie Hovey (Michael), and Sharon Craven; nieces, Deborah, Jessica, and Megan; and nephews, Kenneth, Robert, and Daniel. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Janet Hovey; step-mother, Thomasina (Intravaia) Hovey; daughter, Karen Hovey; and brother, Norman Hovey.
Herb's family would like to thank the hospice staff of Home Health United for their compassion and care of Herb. A private family burial will be held in the near future.
