Eugene Edwin Boynton II
Eugene Edwin Boynton II, 62, died on Wednesday, January 30, at home in Middleton, WI of natural causes. He was a kind-hearted and fun-loving man who was interested in giving back to those who needed his help the most. He cared about "being there" when there was a need for comfort, an occasion to celebrate, a job to be done, a problem to solve or a party to enjoy. He made friends wherever he went - whether it was at work, his investment club, playing poker, attending sporting events, hanging out at his neighborhood pub, attending church or spending time with loved ones. He thoroughly enjoyed being intellectually challenged and was always reading and studying anything that caught his attention - from math to hard science to economics to religion and spirituality and beyond.
Eugene was born in Freeport, IL on April 21, 1950. He graduated from high school in Avon, CT. He attended Purdue University and Springfield College on full athletic scholarships and he was an All-American Swimmer. Gene served in the Air Force with SAC in Omaha, NE where he married Karen Kiley in 1972. He was a life guard on the beaches of Wildwood, New Jersey and later in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Gene graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering from North Eastern University in Boston, MA. Gene worked as an Engineer with Stone and Webster in Boston and Texas (nuclear energy), a utility company in Ohio and defense contractors in CA, and since the 90's he had been working as an electrical engineer with Affiliated Engineering in Madison. Along the way Gene found time to compete in Masters swimming. He moved to Madison, Wisconsin in the mid 1990's to help assist his parents continue to live independently at their home on Lake Mendota for several extra years. He was a devout man and very active with Saint Luke's Lutheran Church in Middleton, with a special interest in The Road Home, where he volunteered monthly in the collaborative effort with local churches to work on Family Homelessness in Madison. He also had an interest in helping the "food-deprived". Gene had a rather unique blood type and continuously donated his platelets through apheresis for many years.
Gene will be greatly missed by his wife Karen Kiley of Palm Desert, CA; his daughter Kristin Kiley-Boynton of Lenexa, KS; his sisters Amy Boynton of Dubuque, IA and Mary (Mark) Campbell of Sutton, MA; his nieces and nephews Leslie (Adam) Kendall, Nicholas (Jenny) den Daas, Lucas (Casey) den Daas, Amanda Campbell, Jacob Campbell, Zachary den Daas and Mark Campbell; his great nieces Azora and Elizabeth and his great nephew Ethan; and a myriad of first and second cousins whom he dearly loved. Gene was preceded in death by his mother Katherine Boynton, his father Eugene Boynton, and his sisters Rebecca Marshall, Sarah Boynton and Ann den Daas.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, February 20th at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 7337 Hubbard Ave., Middleton, WI 53562-3115.
