MADISON - Donald Wayne Schmitt, age 88, passed away on June 3, 2013, while in the loving care provided at Agrace HospiceCare.
Don ("Moe") was born on December 29, 1924, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Harry and Matilda (Drase) Schmitt. He married the love of his life, Marguerite Zerbicki in December of 1955.They had two sons, Richard (deceased) and James (Nancy) of Madison, WI.
Don was an accomplished tool and die maker until his retirement in 1981. He was a kind and generous man, always quick with a joke or pun. For Moe, there was nothing better than a beer and a cigarette in the presence of friends and family at the neighborhood tavern. He loved talk radio and frequently was a call in "character" on local shows, weighing in on the issues always with a comedic twist. Don, like his father, was a tinkerer, inventor and handy with tools.
Don is survived by his son, James (Nancy) Schmitt and his three grandsons, USMC SGT. Derek Schmitt, Gregory (Stephanie Grinwald) Schmitt, and USMC PFC Jeremy Schmitt. He was preceded in death by his wife Marge, son Richard, his parents Harry and Tilly and his two brothers Jack and Bill.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the staff at Agrace HospiceCare for their truly special skills and tender care of Moe in his last months.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to Agrace HospiceCare Inc., 5395 E. Cheryl Parkway, Fitchburg, WI 53711.
Per Don's request, there will be no visitation or funeral service. The immediate family will have private internment service to reunite Don and Marge for eternity.
