VIRGINIA BEACH - Donald W. Hankley, Sr.
Surrounded by his loving family, Don departed on January 18, 2016 to join I'Leta, his wife of 46 years.
Born and raised in Southwestern VA, Don graduated from Galax High School. After attending Carson-Newman College, he and I'Leta relocated to Alexandria, VA where he began his 32 year career with the Department of Defense. An innovator, he earned a patent for his design work with small boats, and pioneered the early years of Information Technology for many Navy activities. He is remembered fondly as an outstanding mentor and leader. Don and I'Leta were founding members of King's Grant Baptist Church. Their commitment to sharing their testimonies through service, teaching and music touched the lives of many people.
Don is survived by his two children, Patricia Hankley and Chip Hankley (wife Heidi); his four granddaughters, Jesse and Rebecca Ailstock, and Maia and Lily Hankley; and, his brother Bennie C. Hankley, Jr, and sister Joyce Belle Hankley.
On March 6, 2016 at 2PM, a Celebration of Life will be held at King's Grant Baptist Church with a reception immediately following. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Agrace Hospice 5395 Cheryl Parkway, Madison WI 53711.
