MADISON - Constance Funkhouser, age 71, died on Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013, at UW Hospital. She was born in Muskegon, Mich., to Roberta Louise (Koehler) Funkhouser and Jacob Otterbein Funkhouser II.
After attending Emma Willard School, the University of Michigan, and the New York School of Interior Design, Constance practiced residential design in New York, Chicago, and San Diego. With her sense of color, proportion, and good taste, she created classic settings, some of which were featured in publications such as San Diego Magazine and House Beautiful. Even in her hospital rooms, Constance could see ways to brighten the lifeless décor. In earlier years, she was an avid world traveler.
Constance's parents and two of her brothers predeceased her, Jacob O. Funkhouser III (Sally) and Nicholas O. Funkhouser (Karen). Surviving are her sister, Helen F. Read (Charles) of Madison; her brother, Roger L. Funkhouser (Barbara) of Traverse City, Mich.; and stepbrothers, Eric Anderson (Somany) of Colorado, and Greg Anderson (Rochelle) of Michigan. Constance had ten beloved nieces and nephews. Constance also leaves behind dear friends, especially in the San Diego area, who, like her family, appreciated her joie de vivre.
No service is planned at this time.
