Madison - Christine Theresa Mayer died at home on January 15, 2016, following an extended illness. She was born in Cincinnati, OH on Oct. 13, 1955. Chris loved dolphins and whales, Lifetime Channel movies and the Packers. She traveled to many places, including England, to share her life story. She inspired many people to work for social justice and to build communities that are inclusive and accepting of differences. Christine lived her life with a strong spirit and willingness to keep starting over when life did not go as she hoped. She will always be remembered by friends as a teacher because she inspired us to learn, to reach far and high and to do better...to find our best. She was also brutally honest when disappointed, but had compassion for the mistakes of others, and would find the humor in even the worst of situations. The last year of Chris' life was a remarkable time. Although ill, Christine found joy in relationships with others and shared her appreciation easily. Toward the end of the year, she devoted her energy to making gifts for friends and supporters, and included notes of love and appreciation which will be long cherished. She is survived by her mother, Rose Mayer of Hewitt WI, her Aunt, Mary Lou Clelland of Kenosha WI, cousins in the Kenosha area and by her many friends and supporters. A celebration of Christine's life will be held on Monday Feb. 8, 2016 at Imperial Garden Restaurant 2039 Allen Blvd., Middleton from 5 PM to 7 PM. Christine's friends wish to thank her support staff at Options in Community Living, Inc. for their love and support over the last 29 years. Memorials in Christine's name may be sent to Options in Community Living, Inc. 22 N. 2nd St, Madison WI 53704.
