Charles William Onsum

MADISON - Charles William Onsum, age 75, of Madison passed away on Monday, March 28, 2016 at Agrace HospiceCare, Fitchburg, surrounded by his family. He was born September 3, 1940 in Glyndon, ND, the son of Olga Marie (nee Thompson) and Chris William Onsum.
Chuck met Bonnie Beth Streeter in 1959, and after a lengthy chase, finally made her Mrs. Bonnie Onsum on April 8, 1989. Charles served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Munich, Germany. He worked as an over the road semi driver for over 30 years. He even drove a wrecker as an extra in the 1978 movie, Convoy, starring Kris Kristofferson.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie; Chuck's daughter, Carrie (Nick);Bonnie's children Shawn (Terri), Shane (Tanya), Shannon, and Shelly; as well as 10 grandchildren: Derek, William, Rhodes, Kyla, Kody, Skylar, Gage, and Alexas, and two special needs grandchildren whom Bonnie and Chuck raised since they were babies, Christopher and April. Also surviving are two sisters, Judy (Terry) and Cindy (Cliff); and one brother in law, Dean.
Charles is preceded in death by his parents, Olga and Chris Onsum; and his sister, Ellen.
Mr. Onsum was a dedicated community activist, volunteering countless hours over the years for the Homeowners Association in his community. He worked for many years to get traffic control in his community, and started a project to get a storm shelter built, which was just opened in 2015. He positively touched the lived of many and worked hard to make the world a better place.
