Her journey here on earth complete, Catherine Louise Steele passed away peacefully on Sunday, Aug. 28, 2016, at the age of 89.
Born on the family farm on Aug. 8, 1927, to Edward and Anna (Molony) Smith, Catherine was a lifelong Lodi resident. After graduating from high school in 1945, she worked at the State Bank of Lodi. On Nov. 17, 1951, she was united in marriage to Robert C. Steele. Together, they raised three rather rambunctious sons.
Catherine was a sweet, caring and gentle soul who enjoyed knitting, reading, baking and later in life, developed a remarkable talent as a painter. A lifelong member of St. Patrick's church, she was guided in life by her strong commitment to her faith.
Catherine is survived by her sons, Marc (Katie), Michael and John (Jean); four grandchildren, Colin, Ryan (Lisa), Maggie and Ian. She is further survived by her sister-in-law, Betty Smith of Baraboo, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert, and siblings, David, Thomas and Clara (Frericks) Smith and brother-in-law Ted Frericks.
Catherine is also now reunited with her coffee klatch clan of Helen Johnson, Boots Luetscher and Vivian Logan.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 521 Fair St., Lodi, on Thursday, Sept. 1, at 11 a.m. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. at the church.
Internment will take place at St. Patrick's Cemetery where Catherine will return home to the land donated to the church by her family many, many years ago.
Catherine's family would like to thank her nurse Cheryl Wiedenbeck, along with the entire staff at Our House Senior Living for the incredible care and comfort they provided to her the past several years. In addition, the family thanks Natalie Westegard and the staff at Agrace Hospice Care who provided compassion and support in her final days.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a donation to Our House Senior Living or Agrace Hospice Care-Baraboo Div. to recognize the amazing work these dedicated people do every day. Checks to Our House should be made payable to Lodi Our House Activity Fund.
Goodbye mom, we love you and will miss you but know that you are now at peace and back home again.
