MADISON - Bruce H. Halvorsen, age 65, passed away peacefully on Friday May 25, 2012, at Agrace Hospice, Madison, with his wife at his side.
He was born to Howard and Helene Halvorsen in Milwaukee, on June 28, 1946, and graduated from Wauwatosa East High School in 1964. He attended UW-Whitewater, MATC Milwaukee, and Milton College, graduating in 1969 with a degree in sociology. He met his lifelong love, Lynn Buckley, in Milwaukee in January 1967, beginning many dates riding on his motorcycle, another passion for life. They were married in December 1969 in Madison, where they have lived ever since.
Bruce joined the Laborers Union and worked construction for several years. His interest in art and industrial design led to a career as a warehouse and delivery manager at two Scandinavian furniture stores. Lynn joined him after a few years, selling and consulting in the stores, and they worked together for many years. In the late 1980s, he began driving for Badger Cab, a flexible job that allowed him to care give as needed for his and Lynn's aging parents. He supplemented cab driving with a seasonal business gardening and doing home and yard chores, mostly for seniors with his dog son, Bandit riding along.
He enjoyed many interests, amateur photography, collecting and flying kites, watching baseball, football, golf and auto racing, especially vintage sports cars at Elkart Lake, camping and visiting family in Door County, and driving vacations with friends and family. He loved being with Lynn, his "puppy" Zeke, and his family of friends. He loved telling jokes and puns and was loved for his humor.
Special love and thanks to our lifelong friends, Ed and Jane Phillps, and Cheryl and Jim Searls for their constant love and support. Also thanks to the staff of Agrace Inpatient Hospice. Your help was invaluable.
Celebrations of his life will be held later this summer in Madison and Door County. Memorials made be made to Agrace Hospice of Madison, or any other caring organization.
