Bruce W. Geiger

Bruce Geiger passed quietly recently at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was 72 but he played much younger.

It’s hard to capture the entirety of a life that was so broadly lived as Bruce’s. He was a renaissance man: musician, writer, singer, fishing enthusiast, marketing leader, husband, father, friend, and inspiration to many.

Music was a critical part of Bruce’s life. He loved all genres. He first picked up a guitar as a teenager and never put it down, collecting several including his favorite, a black 1969 Les Paul Custom. He was a member of several bands including The Name Escapes Me, Bent, and The Dudes In Suits. He could often be found singing with his friends, Mike Brandt and Paul Daley. He was a regular performer at the Ivory Room with Mike Massey and Francie Phelps, and was a long time cast member of The Mad Cabaret. Bruce was especially proud of writing and producing a solo album entitled, “Self Abyss.”

Bruce was an adventurous spirit; he, Trisha, and the girls loved exploring the Northwoods of Wisconsin from their cabin on Squash Lake. In addition, he was a frequent accomplice of his friend, Harvey Briggs, touring the Bourbon Trail, the Mississippi River Road, and several other locations in search of new experiences. Most recently, he and Trisha toured Ireland with their good friends, Nanci and Dale Bjorling.

A long-time resident of the Nakoma neighborhood, Bruce could be found on stage every year in the neighborhood 12th Night play. He was a founding member of the almost famous neighborhood band, Johnny and the Nakomans. Bruce loved to cook and often hosted dinners for friends and neighbors.

Bruce and his wife Trisha Geiger were together 48 years, and he will be deeply missed. He took great pride in his daughters Susan, and Liz and son-in-law Chris Upton. Bruce was elated with the news of a grandchild due in December. He is also survived by his brother, Sheldon Geiger (Connie), and brother-in-law Robert Hicks (Lynn) and their families.

Bruce’s wit, intellect and talent for word play led to a successful and lengthy career in advertising, marketing, and communications in the finance and insurance industries where he developed long and lasting friendships. Bruce was born and raised in Wausau, WI, moving to Madison to attend the University of Wisconsin where he received both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees. He was an avid Badger fan.

No public services will be held; the family will hold a private celebration at a later date. Friends, colleagues, and fans are encouraged to honor Bruce as they tip their favorite beverage. Donations can be made to The ALS Association; Attn: Wisconsin; 1919 University Ave. W, Suite 175; St Paul, MN 55104 or online at: also.org
