Betty Joan Torgerson

Marshall- Betty Joan Torgerson, age 77, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, February 22, 2022. She was born in Portage on November 7, 1944, the daughter of Ade and Betty Moungey.

On August 7, 1963 Betty married Rod Torgerson. Together they enjoyed fishing, hunting, raising their family, NASCAR and Midget racing, and coaching girls baseball. They enjoyed participating and sponsoring Fishing Has No Boundaries. Betty and Rod shared 59 years of marriage until Rod passed in December 2021.

Betty enjoyed handiwork, especially knitting and crocheting, and she was one of Elvis's biggest fans.

Betty is survived by three children, James (Jean), John (Kelly) and Jerilline (Jeff); seven grandchildren, Jerry (Patricia), Peter (Brittney), Paul (Amanda), Tyler (Lyndy), Aaron (Jade), Katie (James), Austin (Elizabeth), Jairod, Jonathyn, and Jazleyna; and nine great grandchildren; two sisters, Marci Moungey and Ann Barrett; and many relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Jacqueline; and two granddaughters, Jade and Anntonyo.

A memorial gathering will be held from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 5, 2022 at the Informed Choice Chapel, 3325 E. Washington Avenue, Madison. Private burial will take place at a later date. A special thank you to the staff of Brighton Hospice, especially Whitney and Wendy, to the staff of Oak Park Place, especially Becky, Tony, and Jay.
