MADISON, WI - Barbara Pearl Archibald was born on July 30, 1929 in Bridgewater, Maine. She passed peacefully on August 26, 2017 at The Attic Angel Community in Madison, Wisconsin where she received remarkable care during her final year.
At 18 she married Philip Archibald, who lived seven miles south in Monticello, Maine, soon after he returned from World War II where he served as a PT Boat gunner. Barb and Phil then spent the majority of their lives traveling across the United States as he was a forester with the U.S. Forest Service. They traveled from California to Mississippi, North Carolina to Wisconsin, Pennsylvania to Washington D.C. and eventually to their retirement home in the northern hills of Georgia on Lake Hartwell.
They had 3 children, Jeff (wife Judy), Boyd (wife Lois) and Jack (wife Karen); and 3 grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Thomas and Michael. Two of her siblings survive her, Helena Porter in Island Falls, Maine and Mary Hills (husband Peyton) in Syracuse, New York. Barb was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Marion McKeen, and by her 3 brothers: Keith, Wayne (survived by his wife Bonnie) and Gene.
Barb's life was filled with a wide variety of friends and locales as they journeyed from state to state. She was an avid card player, a voracious reader, a great cook, and a wonderful hostess. Their marriage lasted 69 years. She spent her final years in Madison, Wisconsin with Phil where they could be close to their son, Jeff and his wife Judy, who live nearby. Burial will be later in the Archibald Family Plot in Monticello, Maine.
