WAUNAKEE - Mr. Austin H. Munson, of Waunakee, WI, passed away peacefully at Agrace HospiceCare on Monday, May 9th, 2016 at the age of 87.
Born on April 18, 1929 in Fresno, CA, Austin, was the eldest of three to Spencer and Laura (Austin) Munson of Madison, WI. A graduate of Wisconsin High and the University of Wisconsin-Madison, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Army as a Military Police Officer. A very gifted artist and inventor, Austin made a career as an accomplished industrial designer which peaked when he founded his own firm in 1990, Creative Design Associates, and was a longtime member and Treasurer of the Badger Area Technical Society (BATS). Upon reuniting with his high school sweetheart Sally (Baskerville), they married in June of 1984 and resided in Waunakee where they enjoyed breeding Labradors and Pugs at Shamrock Acres Kennels. Austin was a dedicated fan of the Waunakee Warriors HS Football and season ticket holder of his beloved Wisconsin Badgers football team.
Austin is survived by his wife Sally; Sisters: Nancy Livingston and Louise Butler (John); Daughters: Siri Ricketts (Kerry), Liza Munson, Kelly Salvato (Robert), Erin Finch (Thomas); Sons: Steve (Melissa), John, Mark, and Erik (Molly), Stepchildren: Kitty McCarthy, Mike McCarthy (Kathy), Pat McCarthy (Nicki), Colleen McCarthy (David), Kevin McCarthy (Kristi), and Kelly Meassick (Steve); twenty-seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his daughter Monica and his parents, Spencer and Laura.
Per Austin's request, there will be an "Irish Wake" celebration of life, time and location TBD.
